William Duval Parker Jr., “Billy”, was a caring father, grandfather, and friend. He passed away suddenly on May 21, 2022 at age 75. He was born to William and Catharine Parker on January 3, 1947.
Bill served 12 years active duty in the Army throughout the United States and Germany supporting critical missile defense systems including Nike-Hercules, Sprint, and Safeguard. His career in electrical engineering built on this army experience earned him high-level clearance. He worked his way up through the boom and bust of defense contractors surrounding Huntsville, AL and Cape Canaveral, FL with companies such as SCI, TRW, Intergraph, and Northrop Grumman.
Bill’s intellectual pursuits were vast and ever expanding. His aptitude in computer science, photography, and mathematics will leave an impression for generations, but his life-long passion for amateur ham radio ranked supreme. With his callsign W4UTC, Billy enjoyed nothing more than speaking to other radio operators around the world. He had a particular love for measuring frequencies. The most measurable phenomenon known in the universe.
He is survived by two children, Joseph and Michael, two grandchildren, Dax and Oscar, and his sister Cathy.
A brief graveside ceremony will be held near his childhood home on Saturday, June 25 at the Trenton Municipal Cemetery in Jones County, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the National Association for Amateur Radio (ARRL) general fund on his behalf.
